The Future of Drones in Indonesia

Drone, also known as aircraft or unmanned aerial vehicles into one of the rapidly evolving technology today. The idea first came on August 22, 1849, when Austria attacked the city of Venice Italy with unmanned balloon laden with explosives. Pilotless aircraft developed during and after World War I. The first is the “Aerial Target” was developed in 1916 is intended to mimic Zeppelins, but never flew. It was finally used by the CIA after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, with the aim of hunting terrorists.

“One of the keys to a successful digital society is wide and smart use of technology, and drone is no exception.”

Currently, the central drone technology is popular in Indonesia. In fact, Indonesia already has regulations related to drones. The regulations contained in the Minister of Transportation No. 90 of 2015 on the Control of Unmanned Aircraft Operations, adopted on 12 May 2015. This is related to the potential use of drones in Indonesia that is quite large. President Joko Widodo has made a budget to maintain maritime security with drones in the country which amounted to 4.5 trillion rupiah. Drone is considered to be a new solution for defense, fish theft detection, detection of fires and illegal logging.[1] Recently, The Government of Riau fielded five drones at different points in anticipation of wildfires.[2] Ministry of Environment and Forests (KLHK) prepared 40 unmanned aircraft or drones to increase surveillance in national parks and other protected areas.[3] Indonesia’s Research and Technology Application Agency (BPPT) will be used to produce surveillance drones for the Air Force this year.

Undeniably, drones offer the efficiency of its use. The drones can fly as far as 100 kilometers in less than an hour, more cost-effective than ground vehicles such as motorcycles and are not at risk of stuck in traffic. In his capacity as an instrument of government supporters, the drone has a range of benefits that can be further developed. Yet again, the application of technology in government institutions should be implemented wisely, not to use drones resulted in fatalities in other fields. The use of advanced technology is supposed to be aiding the lack of efficiency in doing work, and drones technology is no different. However, seeing how drones are widely used even more these days, more monitoring activities are aimed to even be maximized. This is important so that relevant government agency can take immediate action once there is drone-related issues occurring. One of the keys to a successful digital society is wide and smart use of technology, and drone is no exception.
