E-Service: The Faster, The Better

Life tempo is relentlessly accelerated by technology. This includes the service delivered by public agencies. Innovation is continuously required to compete. In delivering public service, innovation is done by implementing technology effectively and efficiently. Various technology enables people to choose the one most suitable with their need. Not only that public sector innovation is a key contributor to national growth, it is also a key contributor to welfare of individual citizens.

Public institutions host a system that affect people’s everyday lives in myriad of ways. These particular institutions provide basic social and public services, such as social welfare service, education and health. They are commonly the suppliers of complimentary services and infrastructures that are essential to the effective use of private sector goods and services.

Some of the e-service innovations launched by city government are RTO (Yogyakarta) and Smart City (Jakarta).

RTO is a real time online system designed for new students to register themselves in a school. The whole process – registration, selection, and also announcement of final result-may be monitored on an online basis. This Real Time Online system listed school that can be picked online. Public schools may be enlisted in the online system. There are three school options that may be enlisted by student, ranging from their priorities as well as grade. This online system is based on a 2.0 web version that may be accessed 24 hours. Submitted data will be immediately processed on a real time basis to guarantee its validity. Applicants will be able to monitor it online. The RTO system is pioneered by Yogyakarta.

Another e-service innovation is Qlue application. City government of Jakarta uses society report to monitor the city’s dynamic. Jakarta society may report the events related with infrastructure or social problems through Qlue application. This android-based application facilitates the citizens of Jakarta to report city problems on a timely basis: traffic congestion, crime or criminal, fire, hygiene problems, disaster, damaged roads, fallen tree, public facilities, parking, etc. This application combines the API of Google Maps with Qlue application to display data visually.

Qlue is launched under Jakarta’s smart city program which aims to attain a modern and innovative city capable in managing its resources effectively, efficiently and sustainably by optimizing the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology). This program allows the city government to deliver qualified public service. Through public’s participation, governments optimizes the public services with qualified information that they have.

RTO and Qlue are examples of how government organizations use technology to accelerate public services. As more public institutions comply to provide e-service, Indonesian society are more likely to get the best service.
