As part to improve the digital literacy in Indonesian, Center for Digital Society (CfDS) UGM has presented Proliner, a series of Digital Literacy Programs for college students. This program aims for participants (college students) who are about to join the Community Service Program (in Indonesia: Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) from all universities in Indonesia. This program is free as well and opens to the public. The 6th edition of Proliner has been held virtually on October, 17 and 18, presenting professional speakers and students who are ready to take a part in the Community Service Program.
Since 2020, CfDS has routinely held Proliner with various topics and courses every year. It has been held six times and the total number of participants up to this year has reached 1123 students from various universities throughout Indonesia. This indicates a common concern shown by various parties, especially students who can share information and exchange knowledge with the community.
This year, participants who engaged in Proliner were provided with courses on Digital Literacy and Social Media Ethics, Personal Data Security on the Internet, Threats of Violence in Cyberspace, as well as Financial Literacy and the Digital Economy. On the first day, the course for Digital Literacy & Social Media Ethics was delivered in the first session by Perdana Karim, while the second session was conveyed by Firya Qurratu’ain presenting the topic of Threats of Violence in the Virtual World.
The next day, Eka Nur Raharja started the third session by conveying material on Digital Financial Literacy, and then closed with material on Personal Data Security on the Internet delivered by Benjamin Imanuel Silalahi in the last session.
According to CfDS representative, “Proliner is one of CfDS’ ways to increase the digital literacy rate of the Indonesian people conforming to the development of the digital technology,” said Iradat Wirid as Secretary Executive from CfDS UGM.
As agents of change, college students through the Community Service Program (KKN) carry out community service actions to have an impact and spread benefits. During KKN, students will associate and participate with the locals in a certain region. Students are expected to be able to contribute in the form of new ideas and innovations to support the welfare of the local community, including the dissemination of the urgency of increasing digital literacy.
“With the material that I got from Proliner, I hope this can help me and other students to stimulate change in society regarding the importance of digital literacy,” said one of the participants, Finda Anastasya Putri from Gadjah Mada University.
